Blue Plate Special
- Night Out -

no steady date - no cash on hand
he was out for a taste with nothing planned
walked out of the rain and into his sin
for a cigarette and a shot jinn
band was playing "blue skies"
the bar-keep wore a rose
some down and out slapped his back
sayin' that cat really blows

but all eyes were on the catwalk
where a dance was groovin high
she licked her lips and shagged her heels
as she went movin' by

(one drink)
<?>boiler maker</?>
(two drinks)
it was jack' and coke
(three drinks)
he's headin' for 'er
he should be headin for the door

he knew he'd known her once before
but the name he could not guess
just tossed her top on a hungry cop
showed the tatoo on her chest
she dyed her hair and changed her smile
but the gal was still the same
and though he'd been a thousand miles
his heart still felt the pain
that was her, the women that taught him how to hurt
tatoos showed the names of the men left in the dirt

her zipper zip while he just sipped
and the tempereture was on the rise
he got up fast and downed his glass
there was fire in his eyes
clentched his fist and shoved his stool
he couldn't keep his rage
downed his glass then got up fast
and headed for the stage

The bar-keep grabbed the telephone
the doorman pulled a gun
pushed him down and fired a round
the music stopped -

-the crowd was stunned

the smoke-litin'
the lights came on
her body on the floor
dropped to her side
and then he cried
was the girl he knew before
he touched her cold the story told
the life went from her eye
sierens screamed and then it seemed
that it was no suprise
tears mixed with her blood and then he
ran out of the bar
no matter how far he ran that night
her face was never far
